In case of lost data - Your first steps are crucial

To avoid permanent data loss, follow these important steps:
  • Never assume data is unrecoverable
  • If your drive is making clicking, grinding or whirring sounds, shut down your computer immediately. Otherwise severe or complete data loss could result.
  • Unplug the computer completely and either call us to pick it up or bring it to our shop at 8719 Sheridan Road for immediate service.
  • If your data is critical, DO NOT try to recover it yourself - Even the simplest data recovery attempts could cause your data to become unrecoverable.

Preventing data loss - Best practices:

  • Backup your important files
  • Use up-to-date hardware and software utilities for data security, such as firewalls and virus protection
  • Backup your important files
  • Scan all incoming data for viruses, including packaged software
  • Backup your important files- are you sensing a theme here?
  • Use ventilation, fans and/or air conditioning to keep servers at the proper operating temperature
  • Connect systems to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect against power surges
  • Avoid static discharge when touching or handling the media, especially in excessively dry environments
  • Test your backed up files to ensure and assure they are recoverable
  • Keep at least one verified copy of critical data offsite
